| Abstract | Compliant mechanisms enable motion and force transmission through the deformation of their flexible members. Unlike conventional mechanisms, which rely on rigid-body joints, compliant mechanisms exploit the flexibility of their segments — often realized as flexure hinges — to achieve the desired motion. This offers several advantages, including high precision and repeatability of motion, low maintenance, and reduced wear, since no lubrication is required, making compliant mechanisms particularly attractive for precision engineering, MEMS, robotics, and many other application fields. The lecture will begin with a brief introduction to the research activities of the “Mechanics of Compliant Systems” group, led by Professor Lena Zentner, from Technische Universität Ilmenau in Germany. Vivien Platl will present the team and its recent research findings before turning to her own PhD topic. The main part of the talk will then focus on the dynamic analysis of compliant mechanisms, presenting the key challenges identified and the main results of the analytical method she has developed. |
